PR Guidelines

Headline and Summary

  • Headlines should not be too long (preferably under 18 words), short and accurate headlines perform better.
  • Headlines with active verbs and subjects will be more enticing.
  • Headlines should accurately present the press release’s content.
  • Refrain from using special characters and symbols in headlines such as ™ or ©. Symbols run the risk of being omitted by some of our media partners.
  • Headlines should be newsworthy (important and recent enough to be announced).
  • Summary should clearly describe the press release’s content.
  • Summary should be clear and concise, and presented in a few short sentences. Long summary runs the risk of being trimmed by some of our media partners.

Press Release Format

  • Press releases should be in appropriate length (between 300 to 800 words is the sweet spot)

  • Press releases should read like an announcement — it is not a medium to advertise or sell your product or service.
  • Do not insert JavaScript or other markup languages in your press release, such as ol, li, table
  • Press releases should be properly formatted.
  • Only include a quote that someone has actually said.
  • Images and videos are great, but excessive use is not recommended. 1 image/video per release is the usual standard.
  • Links are a great way to point the readers to more information, but excessive use is not recommended. 1 link per 200 word count is the usual standard.
  • Press releases should always contain contact information.
